Summary/Abstract: Cervantes’ writings have a unique symbolic value, easily perceived by the readers, which is what often prevents them from unraveling the realist dimension of the illustrious writer. Cervantes’ literary work provides the educated reader a clearly realist representation of the author’s contemporary Spain, becoming four centuries after its publication an extraordinary historical and anthropological document. Cervantes skillfully portrays each of his characters with his artistry and personal thoughts, remembering to convey his own reliable testimony about the developments in science and technology or about the historic events. Cervantes couldn’t neglect the theme of honor, so relevant for the literature of his times and undeniably one of the favorite topics for the authors of the Golden Age. This theme raised Cervantes’ interest and the illustrious writer explores it in two of his exemplary novels: “Las dos doncellas” (“The Two Damsels”) and “La señora Cornelia” (“The Lady Cornelia”). Notwithstanding, Cervantes diverges from the mentality of his contemporaries.
