Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to study the activities of the American Association of Dance Teachers – the National Dance Board of America, the American Society of Dance Teachers, the Dance Masters of America, the American Dance Guild, etc., in the context of the formation of the American style of ballroom dance and the US competition movement in the twentieth century. The methodology of the research is based on the principles of objectivity, historicism, multifactority, systemicity, complexity, development and pluralism, and to achieve the goal, the methods of scientific knowledge are used: problem-chronological, concrete historical, statistical, descriptive, logical-analytical. The scientific novelty of the article is the study of the activities of the American Association of Dance Teachers in the context of the formation of the American style of ballroom dancing and the competition movement in the United States during the twentieth century; an analysis of the creative and educational activities of leading ballroom dance teachers, members of the National Dance Board of America, the Imperial Society of Dance Teachers, the Dance Masters of America, and the American Dance Guild. Conclusions. The study of art and cultural analysis provides grounds for arguing the undeniable influence of American dance teachers' associations on the process of creating and standardizing ballroom dances in the late nineteenth and second half of the twentieth century. The stages of formation of the system of bodies of management of competitive and social dances in the USA, legislation and dance pedagogy, principles of working with European and world associations, etc. are analyzed.
