Summary/Abstract: In this article we analyze poetic works on biblical themes, which became dominant in Ukrainian literature of the late nineteenth - early twentieth century. Starting from the analysis of the work of Olena Pchilka, Ivan Franko, Lessia Oukraïnka, Mykhailo Starytsky, Petro Karmansky, Grygori Chukprynka, Spyrydon Tcherkassenko and other authors we can distinguish three main themes in the Ukrainian poetry of the designated period. At the center of the first theme is a complex of moral and ethical issues, the second is related to the problem of national self-determination of Ukraine, the third challenges the system of complex philosophical conception of the world of the Ukrainian nation.
