Legal/Organizational Issues of Pharmaceuticals Oversightin a Selected Region of Poland

Summary/Abstract: The objective of this work is an analysis of the legislated regulations pertaining to oversight of pharmaceuticals sold in Poland’s pharmacies. The concept of ‘pharmaceuti-cal’ will be clarified as it relates to medicines.The theoretical considerations are based on numerous surveys regarding assessment of pharmacy activity and the quality of sold medicines. The study focuses on the region under the jurisdiction of the Opole Voivodship Pharma-ceutical Inspectorate. The inspections of the pharmaceutical inspectors are authorized un-der the codified legislation of July 2, 2004, which addresses freedom of economic activity in commercial sales, and legislation of September 5, 2001 i.e. pharmaceutical regulations. The article considers the above described issue in the following contexts:- public health in the region – the voivodship pharmaceutical inspectorate; and- business people operating pharmacies – pharmaceutical inspectors. The article applies two research methods: the theoretical/legal method and the empirical method i.e. diagnostic questionnaire survey.
