Summary/Abstract: In this article we look for the place given to the description, by decision-makers and program designers, in Algerian textbooks of French at the middle school level. We would like to see if the description exists in the textbook texts. If its presence is attested, we will look at the purpose (s) and the way in which it is used. In the case of the absence of specific work on the description is confirmed will then be proposed to the teachers some didactic propositions, which may allow learners to open up to the description with its two functional forms and that expand the communication competence to the pleasure of producing, recognize the possible plurality of the meanings of a statement.
