Strategic Human Resources Management in Local Government Units

Summary/Abstract: Public sector plays currently a crucial role in satisfying significant community needs. This is achieved among others, through introducing changes in an area of human resources management in public administration. Strategic human resources management plays nowadays a key role, as it conditions the efficiency of public administration employees. This article shows the usage of good business practice in public sector human resources management. Authors focus on selected local government unit actions in particular. The inspiration for this paper are the observations from professional experience of authors, who work as coaches implementing human resources management standards as a part of EU funded project “Systemic support of management processes in local government units”. The main goal of this article is to show changes from strategic human resources management scope that where implemented in selected local government units in the course of past years, with emphasis on transferring good practice and innovative solutions from business to public sector.
