Summary/Abstract: One of the key factors important for the parents’ adaptation to the challenges dealing with taking care of children with autism is the parcitipation of those parents in the meetings of social organizations. The aim of the research presented in the article was to determinie the relationship between the level of parental stress and the participation to social organizations, 72 parents of autistic children (37 mothers, 35 fathers) and 75 parents (39 mothers ,36 mothers)of children with Down syndrome took part in the research. One-way analysis of varriance (ANOVA) was used to view the results of the research. It found out that in case of fathers the membership to social organizations resulted in higher level of parental stress comparing to the fathers who do not belong to the organizations. The results of the research show on the other hand that as far as mothers are concerned those who belong to organizations experience lower level of the parental stress comparing to the ones who do not belong to the organizations.
