Summary/Abstract: The term Big Data is understood as a huge amount of collected data that cannot be used and managed using the existing traditional methods. Data sets are characterized by: complexity, large volume, diversity, variability and a strong inflow stream. The purpose of the article is to indicate to insurance companies the possibility of using Big Data to assess insurance risk, in particular for actuarial calculations. The article presents the Big Data market development, advantages and limitations, and the possibilities of using various institutions. In the final part of the article we show how huge amounts of data are accumulated in property and personal insurance in the insurance guarantee fund and in the central register of vehicles and drivers (CEPIK).
