Summary/Abstract: Family businesses are a very important part of every market. The source of their success is connected with their unique characteristics, associated with the family and business-related elements of their activity, which provide a great opportunity for business development. Family businesses are often creative and take innovative actions. Their managers are characterised by a high level of entrepreneurial competencies. The creative industries sector encompasses these kinds of business activities that have their origin in the individual creativity, skills and talent, and which have the potential to generate wealth and jobs through the creation and use of intellectual property. The paper aims to explain basic issues related to the concepts of family business and entrepreneurial competencies as well as to show these issues in the context of functioning of creative industries. The paper is prepared on the basis of the available literature and the author’s own research on the subject.
