Summary/Abstract: The article shows the activity of the Institute of Adult Education, an institution of active educational employees specialising in various forms of adult education, the first of its kind in Poland. The genesis of developing the Institute, the forms of activity and the stages of its functioning related to the turbulent history of Poland are presented.The whole of the analysis has been inscribed in the discourse about the importance of memory concerning the andragogical past for the contemporary process of forming andragogy. The author justifies the thesis that restoring memory and introducing andragogical achievements of pioneers to the modern discourse of andragogy is essential for broadening the horizon of reflection and introducing new, previously overlooked areas. This is particularly important in the context of the identity of discipline and recognition among other socio-human sciences.
