Summary/Abstract: This paper provides a theoretical framework on the topic of researchers’ motivation to publish in journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. It is based on a literature review from 1985 to September 2019, using a structured approach, content analysis and descriptive statistics. The results show that the topic has not received enough attention yet. Of the 14 motivational drivers found, the most cited are collaboration, research funding, financial assets, and contributions to society. Also, this paper outlines the gaps in the literature and suggests ideas for future research.
