The dinamic of poverty in Romania from 1990 until 2006. Antipoverty politics

Summary/Abstract: The deepening of poverty is a phenomen common to all countries in a state of transition and it is usually regarded as a consequence of the reform process. Drawing a comparison between extreme poverty and relative poverty and analysing the statistical data provided by the World Bank, ICCV, CASPIS, we can conclude that Romania is dealing with a mass poverty. A very thin layer of the population is characterized by weath (prosperity), while the majority of the population is dealing with poverty, extreme in some cases yet relative as far as the majority is concerned. Consequently, we have tried to point out the poverty parameters from 1990 until 2004, taking into consideration various criteria such as: rezidence environment, the size of the household, age, occupation, education, ethny nevertheless trying to point out the main policies and means of social protection that have been implemented in this period.
