PRELIMINARY CONSIDERATIONS CONCERNING THE RELATIONS BETWEEN LUCA STROICI AND JAN ZAMOYSKI

Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the relations between the chancellor of Moldova Luca Stroici and the grand chancellor and grand hetman of the Crown Jan Zamoyski between 1595−1604. The twenty-one letters Luca Stroici sent to Jan Zamoyski, either for solving problems or as a simple testimony of the esteem and gratitude he carried, are the basis of the paper. Both the analysis of correspon-dence and other documents led to the conclusion that we are in the presence of informal relationships between persons of unequal rank and power who regulate their behavior according to mutual obligations. In these reports a conflict of fidelity arises when Jan Zamoyski’s demands are contrary to those of Jeremiah Movilă.
