Biological diversity in basic curriculum of general education

Summary/Abstract: The main conclusion of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in1992 (UNCED) was the necessity of immediate undertaking any activities to protect biologicaldiversity (biodiversity). That Conference resulted in establishing United Nations Conventionon Biological Diversity and Action Programme (Agenda 21), which are the basic documentsfor the development of any activities in the educational system.Biodiversity problems are included in the new educational basic curriculum, which has beenintroduced to scholar practice since 2009. The aim of this research was to determine (1) thedegree of changes in purposes and contents of education in relation to the reform nearlycarried out in educational programmes and (2) the degree of realization of the biodiversitytopics included in the new programmes in education for the sustainable development. Theresults of these two analyses are presented in the paper.
