Summary/Abstract: History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, formerly the Museum of the Revolution of BIH, has undergone a series of transformations and changes through its seventy years of existence. By comparing the functioning of the museum before the 1992 -1995 war with the post-war period, a number of changes in the structure are noticed - and these changes marked all museum functions as well. One of the functions/roles whose mechanisms and principles were changed is the the role of collecting cultural and historical heritage within museum space. Since its establishment, the museum has been active in collecting items, and this activity has been conducted by purchase of items, donations of citizens, donations of various institutions. After the 1992-1995 war, the museum, as well as other cultural institutions with the national background and sign, remained out of the legal framework and without regular financial support.
