Summary/Abstract: The main intention of this text is to show the interpretativetrack in the attempt to find the genealogy of expert appraisal.The main thesis expresses Zygmunt Bauman’s viewof mutual connection between the weak and light statusof identity in consumer culture and the tendency to createcultural practices in order to overcome that weakness, andto strengthen and confirm that status of identity. On theone hand, the main feature of consumer culture and ourfreedom expressed by consumption determines our identitiesand is the main reason for „corrosion of identity” (R.Sennett), but on the other hand it demands and generatesthe necessity of cultural institutions that guarantee its confirmation.Hence, we may find the reason for the so-called„counselling boom” and expansion of expert appraisal inour risk society. The presented text also shows the culturalbackground for cultural practices in the risk society and consistsof the attempt to grasp social instant pedagogies. Thisphenomenon is analysed here by the role of advertisementsand psychological guides as the main cultural practices ofinstant pedagogy. My intention seeks to bring to account oftenhidden and obvious practices, and to highlight in a criticalmanner the tendencies in our social milieu and in theface of „the unbearable lightness of consumption”.
