Summary/Abstract: Contemporary man requires knowledge about the past. Without knowing past events and conclusions flowing from them, it is difficult to preserve your own identity and create a meaningful reality in life. Getting to know the past can be done through reading historical books. The books mentioned in the article concern: the creation of the Polish state, national symbols, the origin and development of the native village, historical events, heroes from the past, old customs and traditions. Historical publications are shown not only as a source of knowledge but also as an inspiration to undertake educational activities in the field of learning about the historical world by children.
