Summary/Abstract: represented the most active force of the national movement. In the Romanian villages, the tumult of the national movement was stronger, and in the urbanlocalities, where there were fewer Romanians, the priests were those who, throughpastoral activity, supported the feeling of ethnic and cultural unity. During thetumultuous years of the First World War and the establishment of the Romanian-Serbian border, the protopresbyter of Timisoara was Ioan Oprea, a little known church personality. He was a delegate at Alba Iulia on December 1, 1918, but hisrole was more noticeable at the events occasioned by the establishment of theRomanian administration in Banat and the entry of the Romanian Army in Timişoara(August 3, 1919).
