Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to reveal the image of Lithuania displayed in the memoirs of the witness during the Napoleon crusade in 1812. The main focus is on the characteristics of the country and its people: the Lithuanian language, Lithuanian character features, people‘s attitude towards the French army. According to the principles of imagology, the image of Lithuania in the memoirs of sergant Bourgogne is presented in a non-stereotypical way. The preconceived notion about the country is supplemented with the personal experience of the writer. An unassuming position of the spectator, slight irony and humane approach soften up the severe war drama that takes place in Lithuania.
