Summary/Abstract: Instruction in a traditional medicine curriculum offers a strong foundation and framework upon which to build a program that teaches students the necessary methodologies and concepts for practicing in the field. The instruction described in this paper employs a developmental approach by using Bloom’s Taxonomy of Educational Objectives, which is a way to classify instructional activities as they progress in cognitive difficulty. This paper describes a methodology and the results of a 15-year instructional experience of professionals. Results indicate that students move developmentally through six levels of new Bloom’s Taxonomy: knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, evaluation, and creativity with increasing skills. This indicated an increasing ability to think, learn and apply knowledge using a systems theory perspective.
