Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the intervention in Libya and analyses the context in which Resolutions 1970 and 1973 were unanimously adopted in the United Nations Security Council. The main goal of the paper is twofold. First, we aim to discuss the relevance of the Responsibility to Protect (RtoP) in the context of the Libyan humanitarian crisis and the swift response of the UNSC. Secondly, our research objective is to present and analyse the consistency of arguments formulated by BRICS countries (all of them members in the UNSC during the Libyan intervention) with respect to RtoP. The central research question is: what does the case of Libya reveal about BRICS’ attitudes regarding the responsibility to protect civilians?
