Summary/Abstract: The scholar Petru Maior is a distinguished personality of the Romanian nation. He is a very important representative of the Transylvanian School. He is a great man of culture. He was a teacher during the period of national awakening of the Romanian people. The life and work of Petru Maior are remarkable. From Petru Maior’s work, we discover two more important directions of his thinking and activity. A first direction, expressed even from his youth, relates to his attitude towards religion. Another direction is the common one with the other followers of the Transylvanian School, engaged in the emphasizing our Latin origin. An important point of Petru Maior’s activity is that of national-patriotic education. Another principle of Petru Maior’s thinking is that of education in the national language. Another very important point in his conception is discipline. He does not neglect either school. He asks parents to understand this because patriotic science and education, the national language cultivated only through school, can be well-received. Another important aspect of Petru Maior’s work is the issue of educability in his conception.
