Summary/Abstract: The objective of achieving the independence of the country remained one of the great unresolved problems of the young Romanian state. Delivered on the 9th of May 1877, from the high tribune of the Romanian Parliament, the memorable words: „... we are independent, we are a fully-fledged nation ... we are a free and independent nation ....” In this way, Mihail Kogălniceanu, the foreign minister, was announcing to the entire world the decision of the country's government to proclaim Romania's state independence. The national unity, the unity of language, the unity of faith and ideal and the unity of effort turned the echoes of the war of independence in the souls of the Romanians in Transylvania into practical attitudes, manifested by: joining, as volunteers, the Romanian army of young people in the area of Sibiu and Făgăraş; by collecting supplies for the army on the front and for the wounded in hospitals, initiated by the Romanian women in Sibiu and the Romanian Committee of Braşov and generalized throughout Transylvania through calls and subscription lists. The War of Independence was widely reflected in the Romanian press in Transylvania. Newspapers in Transylvania reflected on their pages the fight of the Romanian soldiers to win the state independence.
