Murdoch demeurait perplexe devant la façon dont Heidegger concevait la fonction de la poésie. Murdoch puisait dans ces philosophies pour définir la poésie comme acte de réhumanisation du monde. Iris Murdoch (1919-1999) has been critical of the way Plato and Jean-Paul Sartre considered the role of poetry. Murdoch remained perplexed as how Martin Heidegger defined the function of poetry. Murdoch drew on those three philosophies to define poetry as the act of re-humanising the world.
