The Diocesan Library in Sandomierz – the History and the Present Day

Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the history and contemporary activity of the Diocesan Library in Sandomierz. The institution was established on the initiative of Bishop Andrzej Dzięga in 2007 by the merger of three Sandomierz church units: the Theological Seminary Library, the Diocesan Archive, and the collegiate and Cathedral Chapter Archives and Library. It was mainly the seminary library which constituted the core of the new institution, thus the article discusses its history in more detail. The contemporary activity of the Diocesan Library is shown on the basis of the author’s own managerial experience and personal observations. The archival and library resources of the Diocesan Library, including the division into three mentioned church institutions, are also described.
