Summary/Abstract: Fighting excessive interest rates, turned into a scourge, has become a priority even for countries known for their non-intervention. Due to obvious abuses consisting in imposing penalty interest rates of up to 800% on payday loans, Denmark decides in 2019 to cap interest rates targeting simple individuals. Market failure should not be regarded as an excuse for not applying ceilings, but an objective context justifying state intervention. Extensive studies have shown that capping interest rates has recognized effects in terms of consumer protection, increased access to finance and cheaper loans.
