Summary/Abstract: Art needs publicity and sometimes artists find means to shock the audience in order to increase the interest for their work. A little scandal is like spices in food. The relationship between art, scandal and freedom of creation, opinion and expression has been significantly remodeled in the past decades by the mass media that plays an essential role in generating and fueling scandals around topics, events and tendencies for the ratings’ sake. While anything can become a scandal, sometimes with the help of the artists themselves, there are certain areas or subjects (regarding morality, politics, history) that have become taboo and challenging them attracts public opprobrium. How far can freedom of opinion and expression go? And, for that matter, how far can scandals go?
