Actual Problems of Church Choir and Communal Chanting

Summary/Abstract: Straipsnyje aptariamos bažnytinių chorų ir bendruomeninio giedojimo problemos, iškilusios po Vatikano II Susirinkimo, vykdant konstitucijos Sacrosanctum Concilium reikalavimus. Apibrėžiamos giedojimo būdų meninės ir žanrinės atskirtys, aptariama, kokios Lietuvos bažnytinių chorų galimybės atitikti reikalavimus. Pasisakoma prieš raginimus sujungti choro ir bendruomeninį giedojimą, nes tai paneigtų choro esmę. Bendruomeninis giedojimas straipsnyje traktuojamas kaip grupinis giedojimas, kuris šiuolaikinėje visuomenėje nebeįmanomas, jei nėra laikomasi tam tikros metodikos. Reikia sukurti naują giedojimo iš muzikinio rašto metodiką, sudaryti psichologinę atmosferą, skatinančią bendruomenę giedoti. The article analyses the problems of church choirs and communal chanting, which arose while carrying out the requirements of the Vatican II Gathering Constitution Sacrosanctum Concilium. Artistic and genre differences of both manners of singing are defined; the limits of possibilities of Lithuanian church choirs in relation with the requirements are discussed. The article presents the arguments against the urging to unite the choir with the communal chanting since it would deny its essential existential meaning. In the article, communal chanting is treated as chanting in a group which is impossible without corresponding methodology in modern society. Difficulties of its organization in present Lithuania are as follows: popularity of choirs, hostility among people and different levels of musical literacy. It is important to create the methodology of reading the notes, as well as psychological atmos- phere that would encourage chanting.
