Family determinants of inequalities in developing gifted children

Summary/Abstract: The topic of social inequalities, especially in the context of educational inequalities, is widely described in the literature. However, not much space is devoted to family conditions that result in the unequal opportunities to develop children’s abilities. In this paper the topic is analyzed in two perspectives. The first perspective results from the statements of gifted children’s parents and allows us to specify the causes of inequalities that parents see and try to correct. The second perspective concerns the social, material and cultural status of the studied families of gifted children.
