Summary/Abstract: The everyday life of those involved in the work process in the industry, characterized by poor conditions on the workplace, the labour-consuming production process, where accidents were not uncommon, was the subject of heroization by the socialist state and the propaganda, subordinated to it. The profession of the metallurgist is represented as a masculine, militant, “fiery” profession that is appropriate to be performed by “men of steel”, “fire men”, “stalwarts from Kremikovci”. The main task of this report is to reveal not only the gap between the masculine image of the metallurgist, formed by the socialist propaganda and the real image of the worker in metallurgy, but also to show how the last takes its place in the official version. Sources of the study are archive materials, interviews with former workers of Kremikovci, the newspaper “Kreimikovski metalurg” and the propaganda literature.
