Summary/Abstract: In the article an attempt is made to study the associative fields of the word bread in Stilian Chilingirov's novel "Our Daily Bread" (1926). This experience refers to the boundary area between semantics and stylistics and concerns lexical stylistics. From the very first steps of the development of semantics, the first semantics make attempts to classify the various semantic changes, as the basis for these classifications is different - logical, psychological, sociological. The psychological basis for some of the classifications is the association of ideas, which was later further developed in semiotics. Associations are based on two categories - similarity of ideas, and neighborhood of ideas. Their combination leads to a change in the meaning of the words. In the study we try to use some of these associative fields and their influence on the meaning of the work of art. As a kind of research, it creates certain perspectives in the attempt to make sense of the artistic style.
