“The unglamorous civic prosperity of the future." Socialist precursors of post-growth

Summary/Abstract: This article is devoted to the idea of “necessism” – the concept of limiting production and consumption and promoting life in harmony with nature, created in post-war Czechoslovakia. In this project, one can find a number of values close to degrowth. The main subject of the analysis is the book by Ladislav Žák Obytná krajina, which the author interprets in relation to socialist ideas and economic practices.
