“Magi from the East”

Summary/Abstract: The carols fill people's souls with the joy of Christ's Nativity in Bethlehem. This text analyzes the data preserved by history, religious and popular traditions related to the three magi or kings from the East, the most mysterious characters of Scripture, as they are depicted in the traditional Romanian carols, called the Venerable Gaspar, Melchior and Balthazar, in many cultural and historical sources. We are called to bring new gifts, like the magi, to the divine Child.
