Summary/Abstract: Turgenev didn’t think much about Russian painting, he preferred the French one. Especially the art the Barbizon group, creators of the French national landscape painting attraced his attention. Their pictures formed the basis of his art collection. Their experience was used by the Russian writer to create the vision of the Russian national landscape in his writing. It is based on the accurate observation of the phenomena of nature. In his analysis Turgenev paid special attention to the change of colours depending on the light, to the light-and-shade effects and dynamism. The uderlying, lyrical meaning plays an important role.
