A CONTRIBUTION ТО THE PROBLEM “L. N. TOLSTOY AND L. STERNE”

Summary/Abstract: The author of the article specifies the opinions of research workers concerning the lasting interest of Leo Tolstoy in the works of L. Sterne. Therefore the author states that Tolstoy was only interested in The Sentimental Journey which had been one of the most favourite books of the writer until the end of his literary career. At the same time he shows a definite influence of Sterne on the artistic style of Tolstoy, especially in the first period of his literary activity (the influence on the elaboration of Tolstoy’s “dialectics of soul”, on the composition of the first works and so on).
