SOCIO-PHILOSOPHICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF LEONID ANDRIEIEV’S STORY JUDAS ISCARIOT AND OTHERS

Summary/Abstract: The story Judas Iscariot and others was Andrieiev’s answer to the recent events of the period of the first Russian revolution (1905) and its defeat. Borrowing by the writer in the socio-political situation of those times from the evangelical motive assumed a deep sense. “Judas sin” of abstract, rationalistic thinking, not balanced by the ethic principles of humanism fascinated the writer during his whole creative career. Some works of this type preceded the story Judas Iscariot and others like for instance The thought and There is no absolution.
