Summary/Abstract: The approach of the theoretical and practical courses and lectures taught at the Romanian Language Preparatory Year for Foreign Citizens involves several levels on which the curricular and extracurricular activities need to be organized. Given the fact that the foreign students who study at the Preparatory Year did not have any contact with the Romanian language and culture of our country in the past, they experience a culture shock when they come to Romania. Its effects can be alleviated by familiarizing foreign students with the specifics of our culture, society and civilization. Culture shock affects them on multiple levels: the understanding in classroom, their behaviour towards other people in the academic environment(colleagues, teachers, unknown people), a difficult adaptation to the specificities of a new university environment and difficulties in approaching Romanian students.
