Summary/Abstract: Istanbul is a city that lives and maintains many-layered opposites. To the westerners it is an exotic destination because of its eastern elements, and to the easterners it is a city that brings them closer to the west. In Istanbul, the old and the new, the present and the past, East and West collide, traditions intertwine, smells, sounds, and colours are mixed, and give the opportunity to re-read its identity features and multi-layered contrasts.
