Summary/Abstract: This study illustrates the difficulties which first and third year BA students of the Italian language of the department of Italian in Blida 2 university face, in the module of translation from Italian to French and vice versa. This study highlights the hardships caused by lexical items in two related languages, in order to reveal the misunderstanding that false friends may cause to a bilingual or a multilingual student. To substantiate the claims of this study, the research results were investigated through collecting questionnaires addressed to teachers, besides, two translation activities designed to suit the students of each level. After noticing the common mistakes done by students, the results show that their lack of knowledge of the phenomenon of false linguistic friends can become a hindering problem for them. Finally, to prevent foreign language learners from such a trap, some suggestions are offered to both translation teachers and learners.
