Summary/Abstract: In a rather suprizing move, the UN Human Rights Council adopted, unanimously, on June 6, 2011, a resolution endorsing as UN system-wide new standard the „Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights” a document provided by the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on the issue of human rights and transnational corporations and other business enterprises. Dr. Fărcaș’ paper details this new human rights standard and argues in favour of its implementation by all states and all transnational corporations and business enterprises on the basis of the general duty of all states to protect any victims of human rights violations and of the general duty of all corporations to abide law everywhere on the globe, that necessarily includes all universally recognized human rights.
