Summary/Abstract: Ion Ţuculescu, well known as painter, was also an important biologist, almost forgotten. He graduated both Faculty of Biology and Medicine from Bucharest. He started to publish in foreign scientific journals as a student. His first study was on Amphipoda (Crustacea) (a new genus and species of amphipods from Black Sea). After war someone could find him as biologist at the Brâncovenesc Hospital, at the Institute of Balneology, dedicated to the study of Infuzoria (Protozoa) from the Black Sea and from caves (Bucegi Mt.). He described 99 genera and species of protozoans. Postumous appeared his monography on Tekirghiol saline lake.
