Summary/Abstract: An important item in the teaching activity of a teacher consists in the designing of a learning community where the individual differences and the multicultural features of the learners are reflected and respected.. Even when teaching languages for specific purposes at Bachelor or Master of Science level, the challenge of individuality and diversity in the classroom remains an objective that requires a cultural response. Successful education needs an intercultural approach where the students are responsible for listening in order to understand both their own perspective and that of the others. This paper presents the questionnaires administered to students belonging to some of the departments and faculties in the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca concerning the understanding of cultural diversity, and development of the competence of communication involving more than knowing the structures of interpersonal or intracultural communication.
