Summary/Abstract: The Festival of the Opera and Ballet Arts (FOBA) – Stara Zagora is the first Bulgarian forum of these musical genres. Created in 1967 as “December Music Days” and transformed in 1974 into its present form, it focuses on a large part of the Bulgarian music creative activity from the second half of the 20th century. For the last two decades, FOBA has been looking for recognition in the new social and economic conditions. On the basis of rich empirical material and using his studies dedicated to the festivals, the author analyses diverse data and provides firm grounds for an evaluation of the last five editions of the forum in Stara Zagora. The presented assessment methodology mostly contains invariable characteristics which could serve as an observation and assessment tool for other festival events.
