Summary/Abstract: Constantin Istrati’s life was a continuous fight against ignorance, hostility and indifference for the purposes of eradicating wrongful beliefs and creating a genuinely scientific culture in the Romanian geographic region. He was a great man of encyclopedic knowledge, whose work spanned over the period from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. He was a man who fought against the prejudices of his contemporary fellowmen, with a vision to create scientific academia in the field of chemistry, medicine, geology, and develop the Romanian culture in general. Constantin I. Istrati was born in Roman, Romania on September 7th, 1850, and died in Paris, France on January 17th, 1918. He was a scientific, didactic and cultural personality of enormous reputation, a chemist famous in Europe, a medical doctor, a mineralogist, as well as a corresponding member (since 1889), a full member (since 1899), and the president of Romanian Academy from 1913 to 1916.
