Summary/Abstract: The present study analyses the activity of the Regional Committee for Unification of Bessarabia in 1921. The mission of this committee was to propose to the government from Bucharest concrete administrative measures and to take decisions in order to fully unify the state and to integrate Bessarabia in Great Romania. The Regional Committee for Unification did not have the right to directly intervene in the activity of local authorities. The committee was led by Teodor Neaga who started his activity on 20 th May 1921. After November 1921 we do not have further data about the activity of this committee, and we tend to believe that its activity had stopped. The Regional Committee for Unification’s activity developed in a harsh environment, due to both the social economic perspective and the mixed legal regime which functioned in Bessarabia in its first years after the unification. The committee reached its objectives only partially, the proposals, legislative initiatives for the unification being limited. Overall, the activity of the Regional Committee for Unification was concerned only with the effective administration, the political factor being present in many of its decisions. Our study is primarily based on the exploitation of the unpublished documents of the Committee Fund for the Unification of Bessarabia in the National Archives of the Republic of Moldavia as well as in the existent bibliography.
