Summary/Abstract: Prof. Alexandru V. Grossu was born in Vrancea, at Ciorăni, in July 14th 1910, in a farmer’s family. It soon reached the 100 years since the birth of scientist and we want to bring a modest tribute, not just to the most appreciated from abroad as one of the great Malacology of the twentieth century, but also to the loving country and people, whom he has devoted most part of his life. Graduated in 1934 of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Bucharest, in 1939 became PhD in Biological Sciences with Magna Cum Laudae, with a thesis on gastropods of Bucegi, to Professor Andrei-Popovici Bâznoșanu. From 1939–1952 he is living in Timișoara, basing his family. He is a teacher, school inspector, director of the Diaconovici-Loga College, and a lecturer at the School of Medicine. Since 1952 is in Bucharest, as professor and director of the Pedagogical Institute (1952–1955), Professor, Head of Department and Dean of the Faculty of Biology (1955–1975). 168 | Gabriela Andrei Between 1955–1957 is also director of the Museum of Natural History ”Grigore Antipa”, which he radically reorganized. In 1957 he established Travaux du Muséum. He describes dozens of new taxa and published over 160 malacological works, of which 3 volumes of the Mollusca in Fauna RPR and Gastropoda Romaniae in 4 volumes. He donated to the Antipa Museum the richest collections of molluscs of the Romanian fauna, the institution that has remained deeply attached.
