ARCHIVES AND DAMAGES FROM SOCIAL FACTORS IN ALBANIA (DOCUMENTS’ BURNS, DESTRUCTIONS AND LOSS)

Summary/Abstract: The factors that affect the damaging of archives and documents, besides the physical, chemical and biological ones, are the social factors, such as losses, destructions, burnings, disposals, etc. not according to archival criteria. There are periods throughout the history of the Albanian state where these factors destroyed documents and archives, starting with World War I and further on to the present, in the forms of theft of documents and their sale or disposal not according to archival criteria. In this presentation I will try to present with archival documents a few moments on the destruction of documents in our country caused by social factors, and the efforts that are being made by the General Directorate of Archives, as the highest authority of the archival network in Albania, to minimize the impact of these factors on the documents of the National Archival Fund.
