Summary/Abstract: The paper presents a reconstruction of the history of the gallery at 125 Rakovski St. since its foundation in 1940 to 1945, its functioning and the pursued cultural policy. The lack of an art historical study on the art life in Bulgaria from the vantage point of the gallery justifies the necessity of this study. Founded as an art gallery and home to the Union of the Societies of Bulgarian Artists (since 1944, a gallery of the Union of Bulgarian Artists), it presented the aesthetic views of the members of these societies, with pluralism of expression and stylistic diversity. The focus of the study is on the manifestations and development of different types and genres in arts, group, individual exhibitions organised at 125 Rakovski, cultural agreements with France, Romania, Germany, Italy, Greece, Hungary, Slovakia, Croatia, Japan.
