On translating titles of art works

Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to show the consequences of a lack of standardization in translation of titles of art works. The author examines Polish title translations of two Vincent van Gogh’s paintings in order to verify how title translation strategies have been applied. The paper concludes that there are no coherent translation strategies and that Polish versions result in indirect translation.
