Summary/Abstract: The problem of defining what is a consonance and what is not has been discussed since Antiquity up to nowadays (as part of the contemporary microtonal theory). This text will provide exemplary perspectives towards this subject from the works of several authors: Leonhard Euler’s concept of Suavitatus Gradus, James Tenney's Consonance and Dissoance Concept and William Sethares concept of tuning xenharmonic scales to timbre and making timbres from xenharmonic tunings. An empirical perspective towards Sethares concept of modelling the sonance of intervals by transforming the timbre of the complex tones according to the proportions of microchromatic systems will also be included.
